Selangor free tuition programme benefits 25,000 needy students

SHAH ALAM, Aug 16 — A total of 25,000 students from low-income families have benefitted from the Selangor People’s Tutoring Programme (PTRS) programme this year.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the free tuition classes provided under PTRS are part of the state government’s efforts and initiatives to produce more excellent students.

“The tuition classes are the (Selangor government’s) efforts and initiative to increase excellence in education.

“The state government through the PTRS has given free tuition classes to 25,000 needy students this year,” he said in a post on Facebook today.

He said the programme that started by offering free tuition classes to Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates has been expanded to primary school pupils this year so that more students can receive its benefits.

Amirudin added that the state government has allocated RM7 million for the programme this year, while the Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI funded the students’ lunch meal cost.

He said the programme also has its own web portal at ePTRS.my.
