Selangor mulls setting up service centre to help people get housing loans

AMPANG, Aug 20 — Selangor government is reviewing the need to set up a housing loans service centre to help people in the state own homes.

State executive councillor for housing Rodziah Ismail said the centre would be able to assist those from the low-income (B40) group who faced difficulties in getting loans to buy homes.

“I praise the effort made by the Inisiatif Bina Ummah (Ibu) Association who had set up the housing loans application centre for the first time at the Ukay Perdana Mosque to assist residents who face problems in their housing loans applications.

“Therefore, I will closely monitor the development of this centre and if this method works in facilitating housing loan applications for the people, then why not implement it at the state level,” she said after the handover of aid ceremony at the Ukay Perdana Mosque here today.

Earlier, Rodziah who is also Ampang parliamentary constituency coordinator officiated the housing loans service centre which is operated by Ibu.

The centre was established to assist prospective homebuyers in all matters related to applications for housing loans, whether for new financing or refinancing.

Meanwhile, Rodziah said 3,000 units of Rumah Idaman are available for the Selangor Rent-to-Own Scheme.

She said the scheme that was announced by the Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari aimed to help people who could not afford to buy a house to own one in the future.

“They can rent it first at a reasonable rate between RM600 to RM800 depending on the area before owning it within three years.

“We aim for 3,000 units to be rented and owned by the people within two years after this scheme starts in September. However, before handing over this residence, we need to see the applicant’s financial commitments,” she said.

Rodziah said among the areas where the Rumah Idaman for this scheme will be developed are in Kajang, Kuala Selangor and Bukit Jelutong.

Earlier, Rodziah attended the Ampang Parliamentary Coordinator’s Donation Ceremony at the Ukay Perdana Mosque here.

The Menteri Besar had previously announced the development of six Rumah Idaman projects to assist persons working and living in Selangor in getting their first homes.

Amirudin said each apartment is priced at RM250,000 and has a square footage of 1,000 square feet and a practical design with three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
