SHAH ALAM, Aug 15 — Selangor emerged as the runner-up for the best state pavilion category contest of the 2022 Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agro-tourism Exhibition (Maha) that ended yesterday.

State executive councillor for agricultural modernisation and agro-based industry Izham Hashim said Selangor Pavilion featured projects that coincided with the theme ‘Food Security for the Future’ throughout Maha’s 11 days at the Malaysia Agro Expo Park Serdang (Maeps).

He said among the projects displayed include high-value agriculture programmes, crop and aquaculture innovations, as well as research and development (R&D) projects to penetrate the market.

“The Selangor Pavilion highlighted the involvement of youths in the agricultural sector and included an exhibition on products by 2021 Selangor Agro Icon winners.

“It also displayed information on the Selangor Agro Transformation Plan (PeTA), provided advisory service to visitors and held meetings with agropreneurs to hear their views on ways to improve the state’s agricultural output,” Izham told SelangorKini.

He added the Selangor Pavilion also introduced the Selangor Agro Mart (SAM) concept, which featured 200 types of agro-based industry products from 48 entrepreneurs.

Izham said the Kopi Kanchong Darat Cafe, which operates in Kuala Langat, carried out promotions which were met with favourable responses from visitors.

“Many visitors asked about the product, which indirectly promotes (tourism in) an area within the district,” he said.

As the runner-up, Selangor Pavilion takes home a cash prize of RM5,000. The winner is the Perak Pavilion while the third place was won by the Kedah Pavilion.

The 2022 Maha, which ran from August 4 to August 14, is the largest and most prestigious agricultural exhibition in Malaysia which brings together 1,500 exhibitors with a potential sales value of over RM250 million.

A total of eight parks on agriculture and animal husbandry were showcased, in addition to another 22 segments with their own attractions.
