Selangor widens campaign to install LED lights, solar systems in all buildings

SHAH ALAM, Aug 3 — The campaign to install Light-Emitting Diode (LED) lights, solar systems and rainwater housing (SPAH) in all buildings throughout the state will be expanded, as part of efforts to combat climate change in the real estate industry.

State executive councillor for housing Rodziah Ismail said the five-year campaign under the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) involves central government and private residential strata residences, offices, hospitals, schools, colleges, universities, stadiums, markets, shopping centres, and factories.

“The installation and maintenance of LED lights together with solar systems in residential strata buildings, particularly Rumah SelangorKu homes, has already begun implementation via smart collaboration between the Selangor Housing Authority (LPHS) and three private companies.

“SPAH is another initiative offering ‘quick wins’ and can be carried out in the near future,” she said during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly session recently.

Similarly, Rodziah said the policy for modern agricultural green practices, including rooftop gardens, gardens on derelict land, and potted plants along the corridors of strata buildings will be updated.

She added that other improvements involve solid waste recycling on the local community level, efficient equipment, and efficient equipment for natural resources.

“I guarantee the strategy of planning, implementation, control and evaluation will be the main focus in formulating and implementing all state government policies,” Rodziah said.

On July 27, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari tabled the RS-1, which is expected to be Selangor’s development framework in five years and has a total cost of RM212.44 billion.

He said that RM92.44 billion has been set aside for state-level development initiatives, including the introduction of a number of incentives to ensure the welfare of the people.

Amirudin said Selangor’s efforts will not set aside the five-year planning under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) which is still ongoing and bringing an impact to the state.
