Shah Alam Stadium unfit for use since 2020 — MB

SHAH ALAM, August 4 — The Shah Alam Stadium was deemed unfit for use since 2020 due to damages to its roof, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said when the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) declared the stadium as not safe for use in 2019, it prompted the state government to seek a solution by referring to a report made in 2013.

“The report was not based on an evaluation done by a company but from a special committee set up by the state government and led by Selangor Public Works Department (PWD).

“The stadium cannot be fully used in 2020 because the roof has a short lifespan. Before that it was fine when the stadium was used for the Malaysia Cup finals and the Sultan Selangor Cup match,” he said.

He said this during the winding-up session of the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly on Tuesday (August 2).

Amirudin said the state government has spent almost RM600,000 to repair the Shah Alam Stadium for the SEA Games competition in 2017.

“At that time the Federal government offered us RM400,000 but we decided to use our own funds to replace the roof.

“This is about changing the roof of a stadium, not for a house. So for a stadium, it has its own system and links that need to be looked at comprehensively,” he said.

On July 15, Amirudin announced that the Selangor government estimated the cost of upgrading the Shah Alam Stadium to be at RM787 million.
