By Zareef Muzammil

SHAH ALAM, Aug 2 — The state government projects and initiatives have been successful in increasing the awareness level of the people in caring for the environment.

State executive for environment Hee Loy Sian said the community’s knowledge, attitude and responsibility have improved along with the number of reports lodged which reflects the public concern about the environment.

“This (development) shows the level of public awareness (on the environment) is getting higher which indirectly demands the state government to come up with immediate solutions (on environmental issues),” he said during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly here today.

He said this to answer a question from the Kota Damansara state assemblyman Shatiri Mansor regarding efforts by the state government to increase awareness of caring for the environment in the community.

Hee said Selangor had spent RM2.48 million last year to create a greener environment that was implemented by state agencies.

He added the allocation was also given to programmes to increase public awareness of the environment.

On February 14, a total of 128 organisations and associations were selected to participate in the 2021/2022 Selangor Green Technology and Environmental Grants.

The organisations will implement programmes related to environmental sustainability, such as river and beach cleaning, environmental education seminar, and tree planting.
