State scholarship programme helps women further their studies

SHAH ALAM, Aug 9 — The Selangor Women’s Scholarship programme is part of the state government’s efforts to provide support and opportunities for women in education thus empowering them.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said RM200,000 has been allocated each year to provide the scholarship as a part of the state’s long-term investment to continue empowering women.

“The sponsorship is for diploma programmes, bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees and PhD, which will elevate women to higher levels of leadership.

“Continuous education is very important in empowering women for the development of the state,” he said on Facebook today.

He also informed that 12 women were recently awarded the Wanita Berdaya Selangor (WBS) Scholarship for Cohort Two under its lifelong learning programme.

On July 13, the political secretary to the Menteri Besar, Juwairiya Zulkifli said the state government will continue its strategic collaboration with the Open University Malaysia (OUM) to make the WBS Scholarship programme a success.

She said the joint venture was in line with the goal to improve the socio-economy of women as well as increase their participation in leadership and as decision-makers.
