SHAH ALAM, Aug 2 — The results from a study on addressing climate change in Selangor will be announced in four months’ time, said state executive councillor for climate change Hee Loy Sian.
He said the matter has been discussed by the Selangor Climate Change Action Council with a professor at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
“We have appointed the UPM professor as a consultant to conduct a study and find ways to adapt to climate change.
“There, we hope that in three to four months’ time we will be able to come out with solutions and measures to address the climate change which are going to happen,” he said during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly here today.
He said this to answer a supplementary question from Bandar Utama state assemblyman Jamaliah Jamaluddin on the progress of the preliminary study on climate change according to the suitability of infrastructure in the event of a flood.
Hee added that the state government is also looking at creating a special application that the people can use in the event of a flood disaster.
“This app will enable the people to request assistance from relevant units under government agencies or authorities during floods. We are conducting a study on it,” he said.
On March 21, Hee informed that the state government has come up with the Green Technology Action Plan to address climate change issues and reduce carbon emissions.
In addition, the state government has also implemented the green township initiative by adopting the Low Carbon City Framework (LCCF) in policy planning at all local councils.
