SHAH ALAM, Sept 15 — The Selangor government will continue exempting the trading licence fee for small traders and property tax assessment for residents in village houses and low-cost housing for 2023, which makes it the eighth consecutive year.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the State Executive Council agreed on the decision yesterday.

“State Executive Council has decided to continue exempting assessment tax for low-cost and village houses and trading licence fee small traders for 2023.

“The exemption value stands at RM68.74 million. Hopefully, the move would help lighten the load for the people of Selangor,” he said on Twitter.

Meanwhile, state executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han said the exemption, aimed to help ease the people’s burden, have been implemented since 2016.

He said as a result of the exemption, the state government could potentially lose RM68.74 million in revenue in 2023.

“However, we are determined to stand with the people the face of difficulties such as rising costs of living. Berat sama dipikul, ringan sama dijinjing (through thick and thin).

“Despite our country has now entered the recovery phase following the Covid-19 pandemic, most of the people are still facing various challenges including high inflation rate, a weak ringgit value and continuous hikes in the overnight policy rate (OPR), which have had an impact on housing and car loans,” he said in a statement today.

On February 21, Ng said that the Selangor administration had issued over 10,000 temporary licences to unlicensed traders and individuals affected by the Covid-19 outbreak.

Last December, the time frame for the issuance of the temporary licence for small traders was extended for another six months until June 2022.
