SHAH ALAM, Sept 15 — Heavy rain, strong winds and thunderstorms are expected to occur in four districts in Selangor until 6pm today, says the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
In a warning issued at 3.40pm, the agency said the districts include Sabak Bernam, Gombak, Petaling and Hulu Langat.
“Other affected states and territories include Kuala Lumpur, Perak (Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak and Muallim and Pahang (Bentong, Temerloh, Maran, Bera, Pekan and Rompin).
“The similar weather pattern is also expected in Johor (Segamat, Kluang, Mersing, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru), Sarawak (Kuching), Sabah (Papar, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu and Tuaran),” the agency said.
MetMalaysia issues warnings whenever signs indicate a thunderstorm with a rain intensity exceeding 20 mm that is close to or is expected to occur for more than an hour.
A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single release.
