King, Queen congratulate UiTM choir for winning two international competitions

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 — The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has congratulated the Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) choir team, UiTM Chamber Choir (UCC), for winning two international choir competitions recently.

Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah also conveyed her congratulations to the choir.

UCC won the 11th Pau Casals International Choir competition in Barcelona, Spain on September 24 and the 10th Isola Del Sole International Choir competition in Grado, Italy on September 29.

“May all of you continue to excel,” read the post shared on the Istana Negara official Facebook page today.

According to UiTM’s official news website, UCC won two Grand Prize awards and emerged as overall champion in Barcelona after they attained the highest score to win first place (Excellent Golden Diploma) in three categories: Folklore (100 marks), Mixed Voice (99.3 marks) and Pablo Casals Composition (97.8 marks).

The choir, consisting of 23 undergraduates, also won Grand Prize Overall Champion voted by an unofficial jury of the competition.

Meanwhile, in a post on UCC Facebook page, the team shared that they also won the first prize in the Mixed Voice category in Italy.

The group have also won other international awards previously, including in Bali, Indonesia (2015); Rome, Italy (2017); Torun, Poland and Wernigerode, Germany (2019).
