HULU SELANGOR, Sept 27 – Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI has spent RM43,800 to help the victims in the Kuala Kubu Bharu state constituency who were hit by the floods on May 16.
Its Corporate Social Responsibility chief Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said that the total sum would benefit some 146 families in Kampung Jawa, Kampung Pasir, and Kampung Air Panas with everyone receiving RM300 in cash.
He said that the financial aid would be channeled to the respective victims based on the information provided by Kuala Kubu Bharu state assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong.
“The flood that hit several areas in Kuala Kubu Bharu was unexpected, but Alhamdulillah (Praise be to God), we were able to distribute food baskets to the victims.
“This time, we provide financial aid in hopes that it can help ease the victims’ burdens.
“We would like to assure them that the state government is working on plans to mitigate the floods to prevent such incidents from reoccuring,” he said when met after the aid handover ceremony at Kampung Jawa town hall in Kerling, here today.
Meanwhile, Lee had expressed appreciation to the state government agency for the assistance offered to the flood victims even though the tragedy happened four months ago.
“The residents are indeed grateful because there are people who still care. Although the aid may not be able to cover entire losses, at least the intention and appreciation were shown,” he said.
On May 16, continuous rain for more than three hours from 12 noon resulted in flash floods in several areas in the district.
Among the affected areas are Kerling, Kampung Kelapa, the intersection in front of the Royal Malaysian Police College (PDRM) in Kuala Kubu Bharu and Taman Serendah Makmur housing area.
