MBI channels over RM200,000 to help storm-affected Kuala Selangor residents

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 7 — Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI has channelled approximately RM206,000 to 206 families who were affected by storms in Kuala Selangor on May 11.

Its corporate social responsibility head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said RM1,000 for each family was distributed to 98 households from the Tanjung Karang 1 subdistrict, 104 families from the Tanjung Karang 2 subdistrict and the Ujong Permatang subdistrict (four).

He added the donation was provided evenly regardless of the severity of the damages to the victims’ homes, after a thorough discussion with the District and Land Office as well as the Kuala Selangor Works Department.

“Even though the amount will not cover the victims’ losses, we hope it will alleviate their burdens,” Ahmad Azri said when met after distributing the donations, at Dewan Dato’ Penggawa Permatang earlier today.

Also in attendance was Permatang state assemblyman Rozana Zainal Abidin, who thanked MBI for its concern and allocating funds for the affected victims.

“Some of them may have repaired their houses, and hopefully they can use the donation money wisely and save for the future,” she said.

Rozana also advised her constituents to remain vigilant of the latest weather patterns, and avoid water activities at high-risk areas including beaches and the sea.

“Since a huge flood could potentially happen by the end of this year, I have instructed the community service centre staff to prepare. To this, we have prepared food supplies alongside other equipment including life jackets, boats and sampans,” she said.
