SHAH ALAM, Sept 23 — The Klang Municipal Council (MPK) has mobilised its equipment and vehicle assets in order to face the upcoming Northeast Monsoon and the high-tide phenomenon.
Its president Noraini Roslan said over 20 vehicle assets are ready for use, should a flood occur. These include pickup trucks, jetter trucks, tankers, and small boats.
“The local authority has its respective duties when dealing with disasters, in the event they occur in areas under MPK’s jurisdiction.
“Alongside the provision of vehicle assets, we will also provide life jackets, drones, and water pumps to prepare for the high-tide phenomenon,” she said in a statement.
Noraini added that MPK also has 17 public and multipurpose halls at the ready to serve as temporary evacuation centres (PPS), which can accommodate over 1,000 people.
“The halls listed as PPS include Dewan Ahmad Razali, Dewan Meru, Dewan Pendamar Indah 2, and Balairaya Sri Damak,” she said.
The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) has reported that eight of Selangor’s nine districts are identified as flood hotspots.
The Department of Irrigation and Drainage stated the districts include Klang, Petaling, Gombak, Hulu Langat, Sepang, Kuala Langat, Sabak Bernam, and Kuala Selangor. Only Hulu Selangor is not listed as a flood hotspot.
