KUALA SELANGOR, Sept 12 — The 26-year wait of the buyers who purchased the low-cost homes in Taman Sungai Yu Indah is now over as the project, first begun in 1996, has now been completed and is ready for habitation.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said 107 units worth RM42,000 each were successfully restored and completed this year.

“I am the sixth Menteri Besar (since the project was first launched), starting with Tan Sri Muhammad Taib, then the late Tan Sri Abu Hassan Omar, followed by Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo and the late Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, after that Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, and now during my tenure, the houses have finally been completed.

Alhamdulillah, from 2014 onwards we already possessed a formula to solve the matter, after changing some policies. This is not an excuse, but the policies were changed as the state government sought to resolve things in line with the current situation,” he said.

Amirudin was speaking at the handover ceremony for the keys to 10 buyers in the housing area.

The Menteri Besar added the natural lake near Taman Sungai Yu Indah will be maintained and converted into a reservoir, given its proximity to the sea.

“I requested it be maintained and enlarged, to serve as an added value in the event of high-tide phenomenon, so it can accommodate the excess waters,” he said.

if there is a big tide to accommodate the drainage,” he said.

The completion of Taman Sungai Yu Indah was in collaboration with Syarikat Serambi Padu Sdn Bhd, with Phase Two and Phases 3A and 3B under construction.

Amirudin said Phase Two includes 120 units of medium-cost terrace homes, expected to be completed by this December, while Phases 3A and 3B involve 272 affordable one-and-a-half-storey units, and are expected to be completed by next year.
