Pharmaniaga launches EVs to deliver medicines

KUANTAN, Sept 26 – Pharmaniaga Berhad (Pharmaniaga), through its wholly-owned subsidiary Pharmaniaga Logistics Sdn Bhd (PLSB), has launched the use of electric vehicles (EV) for the delivery of medicines in several areas around the Klang Valley.

The launch ceremony was officiated by Chief of Defence Force Gen Tan Sri Affendi Buang in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary celebration of the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) at the Air Base here today, with the delivery of medicine to health clinics and government hospitals via two EVs scheduled to begin this October.

Pharmaniaga Berhad Group managing director Datuk Zulkarnain Md Eusope said the use of EVs was part of the company’s long-term sustainability efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as well as supporting the government’s call for low carbon emissions under the Low Carbon Aspiration 2040 initiative.

“As one of the largest GLCs in Malaysia, we are responding to the government’s call to achieve this aspiration to ensure sustainable development of the country and to achieve Malaysia’s carbon neutral goal by 2040.

“We plan to increase the number of EVs to 30 per cent in the next three years, and to 60 per cent by 2028,” he said in a statement here today.

Zulkarnain said the group was also targeting the full use of EV vehicles throughout the company’s transport logistics ecosystem by 2035.

The use of the new EVs will enable PLSB to conduct a proof of concept on the feasibility of applying EV technology in the existing logistics group and when successful, the company will do a study on increasing the number of EVs for the delivery of medicines to more distant areas.

PLSB is the main driver of the company in logistics and distribution services that supplies medicines as well as healthcare products throughout the country. PLSB has five distribution centres located in Selangor, Penang, Sabah and Sarawak.
