“I think this is the first time a state has done this. So I hope all Malaysians can get the same benefits as the people in Selangor,” he said.

On August 30, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced that up to six million Selangor residents will be offered the Insurans Hayat Selangor (Insan), with the premium fully borne by the state government.

Through Insan, each covered individual will receive an RM10,000 payout for death, accident and injury according to type.

The initiative offers protection for all people in Selangor, aged from 30 days to 80 years old, who meet either one of the two conditions which are, that they are born in Selangor or a voter in Selangor.

Registration for the insurance scheme with an estimated total protection value of RM60 billion will be opened on October 1, 2022.
