SHAH ALAM, Sept 24 — Selangor Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) is ready to mobilise its members in 22 divisions throughout the state to provide flood relief efforts.
Its communication director Azmizam Zaman Huri said the significant floods in December last year have highlighted the need to make early preparations to avoid untoward incidents during the evacuation of flood victims to temporary relief centres by relevant agencies and distribution of post-flood aid.
“Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has predicted heavy rain across the country starting from middle November that will lead to significant floods at the end of that month.
“Thus, Selangor PKR will be mobilising its members in all 22 divisions throughout the state so that volunteers from the party can help the local authorities by facilitating the distribution of basic needs items to flood victims at temporary relief centres and in the clean-up of flooded homes,” he said in a statement today.
Azmizam also lauded Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari’s recent announcement that the state government will conduct flood disaster simulation training for two days starting next week and special allocation to add more assets such as boats, machinery and personnel.
“This is a right move and shows that the state government puts the interest of the people first compared to a certain political party, which is obsessed with grabbing power by demanding the General Election (GE) to be held as soon as possible,” he said.
