SHAH ALAM, Sept 15 — Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj has given his consent for the state flag to be flown at half-mast from Saturday (September 17) until Monday (September 19) to honour the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, who died on September 8.

Selangor State Secretary Dato’ Haris Kasim said the royal decree was also meant to honour the good relationship between the Selangor Ruler and the late Queen.

“In accordance with the Sultan’s decree, the State Executive Council on September 14 has ordered all state departments and agencies to fly the Selangor flag at half-mast with the consent of the His Royal Highness,” he said in a statement today.

Queen Elizabeth II, the United Kingdom’s longest-reigning monarch, died on Thursday at her summer residence of Balmoral Castle in Scotland, at the age of 96 after 70 years on the throne.

Her Majesty’s state funeral service will be held at Westminster Abbey on September 19.
