SHAH ALAM, Sept 30 — The eighth edition of the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS 2022) is seeking to generate up to RM350 million in transaction value, said state executive councillor for trade, investment and industry Dato’ Teng Chang Khim.

He said from its inception in 2015, the business summit has consistently increased its transaction value except for during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“During SIBS’ inaugural edition, we managed to generate RM182 million in transaction value from 400 booths provided at the event.

“When Covid-19 hit the world, we had no choice but to conduct the event online.

“Despite being held virtually, SIBS managed to generate RM1.09 million in transaction value and recorded 2,618 registered users, 61,272 returning audience members, and 177,974 digital audiences,” Teng said during an interview at his office recently.

He added for last year, SIBS marked another milestone when it was conducted in a hybrid mode, with a total of 25,410 visitors recorded throughout its four-day duration.

“Since the summit will be fully physical this year, we are aiming to draw up to 30,000 participants.

“The number of booths provided for SIBS 2022 has been increased to 850, to cater to the increased number of exhibitors,” Teng said.

There are six main components of SIBS 2022, namely the Selangor International Expo (SIE) Food and Beverages, SIE Medic, the Selangor Industrial Park Expo (SPARK), the Selangor Asean Business Conference (SABC), the Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention (SDEC) and the Selangor Research and Development and Innovation Expo (SRIE).

The Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah is slated to officiate the event at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on October 6. Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari also will be present during the opening ceremony along with Teng.
