SHAH ALAM, Sept 8 — State executive councillor for sports Mohd Khairuddin Othman has been named to lead the Selangor contingent for the 20th Malaysia Games (Sukma), assisted by Deputy State Secretary of Selangor State Government (Management) Mohamad Zahri Samingon, who is also the deputy head of the contingent.

Both received the letter of appointment from Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari at the flag handover ceremony to the Selangor contingent at the Selangor Youth and Sports Complex, here today.

During the event, 30 state assemblymen were also appointed as chaperones to the team for the Games, which will be held from September 16 to 24.

Among the representatives who were appointed include Balakong assemblyman Wong Siew Ki, Juwairiya Zulkifli (Bukit Melawati), Jamaliah Jamaluddin (Bandar Utama), Rozana Zainal Abidin (Permatang), Mazwan Johar (Sungai Ramal) and Lim Yi Wei (Kampung Tunku).

Twelve local councils and six state government subsidiaries had also received the letter of appointment, including Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor (PKNS), Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad (PNSB) and Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd (KSSB).

Amirudin said that the chaperones will be tasked to assist in easing the athlete’s pressures in handling unforeseen circumstances.

“If something occurs that we are not aware of, they can also report it to me directly. The more individuals are held accountable, InsyaAllah (God willing) we can achieve excellence,” he said.

The 20th Sukma, which was initially slated to be held in Johor from March 6 to 14, 2020, was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

It was later decided by the National Sports Council that the Games were to be held in the Klang Valley from in September this year.
