Tengku Zatashah helps to clean beach, plant saplings at Morib

SHAH ALAM, Sept 11 — Some 50 medlar tree saplings (mimusops elengi or Pokok Tanjung) were planted during the programme to clean the beach around Dataran Pantai Baharu Morib in Kuala Langat yesterday.

With the theme ‘#SeatheChange’, the Pledge and Planta programme was held to mark the International Beach Cleanup Day and was officiated by Her Highness Tengku Datin Paduka Setia Zatashah, alongside state executive councillor for tourism and environment Hee Loy Sian.

The programme, held for the fifth time since its inauguration in 2017, is the brainchild of the daughter of the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, as an environmental preservation initiative.

In a statement, Kuala Langat Municipal Council (MPKL) president Datuk Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim expressed his appreciation for the involvement of all strategic partners in joining hands to realise Pledge and Planta.

“MPKL highly welcomes and will continue to provide solid support for efforts such as this. Our highest thanks go to the Malaysian Institute of Planners for choosing Kuala Langat as the venue for Pledge and Planta.

“The programme will have a large-scale impact on efforts to empower the creation of low-carbon cities, together with the Malaysian Greening Agenda via the campaign to plant 100 million trees from 2021 to 2025, under the aegis of the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry (Ketsa),” he said.

Pledge and Planta at Dataran Pantai Baharu Morib was also attended by personnel from Lembaga Urus Air Selangor, the Kuala Langat District Education Office, the Inland Revenue Board, Reef Check Malaysia, Gang Peduli Sampah, and My Clean Beach.

In addition to the Selangor Water Management Board, yesterday’s beach cleaning program was also attended by the Kuala Langat District Education Office, the Inland Revenue Board, Reef Check Malaysia, Garbage Peduli Gang and My Clean Beach.

Amirul added the entire community will do its part to raise awareness on jointly shouldering the responsibilities of helping MPKL to care for the environment and tourism areas, thereby achieving sustainable development.

“Efforts like these are an initiative that will impact the potential of clean tourism areas, projecting a positive image on both the local and global stage,” he said.
