Tourism Selangor targets more tourists from Russia, Turkiye

SHAH ALAM, Sept 19 — Tourism Selangor along with the Tourism Malaysia delegation have visited several new territories in Russia and Turkiye to strengthen bilateral ties and attract more tourists from the two nations.

The 10-day visit, which covers Moscow, Tashkent, Almaty and Istanbul from September 11 until September 20, was led by state executive councillor for tourism Hee Loy Sian and joined by Tourism Selangor chief executive officer Azrul Shah Mohamad.

In a statement today, the state agency said that the sales mission sought to attract travellers from Russia, Turkiye, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan to Selangor.

“Throughout the visit, Tourism Selangor has showcased a wide range of market segmentation in the state as well as promoting the ‘Splendid Selangor, Take Me Anywhere!’ campaign.

“As of 2021, there was a 13.0 per cent (231,914) increase in the number of European tourists to Selangor compared to the previous year when travelling was restricted due to the lockdown.

“Hence, this is the ideal time for Selangor to resume its pre-pandemic growth, particularly for the international travellers’ segment, as the travel ban has been lifted,” it said.

Hee said the Splendid Selangor campaign is a significant effort and a turning point in efforts to boost cooperation between the interested nations.

“This will involve prospective partnerships via familiarisation trips with media and travel agencies, cross-promotion series including advertising and digital campaigns, roadshows, and sales missions.

“Selangor’s wide range of segmentation provides abundant tourism attractions, from eco-tourism, theme parks, cultural and heritage to splendid shopping and leisure experiences.

“Tourism Selangor is ready to tap into extensive partnerships with tourism operators and industry players while gearing up its awareness to elevate the mission to be a prominent travel destination in Southeast Asia and globally,” he added.

Some of the tourist attractions offered in Selangor include the Sunway Lagoon theme park, Fireflies Park in Kampung Kuantan, Mah Meri Cultural Village and Avani Sepang Gold Coast Resort.
