KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 — The Commissioner of Buildings (COB) must urgently resolve various issues concerning strata housing apartments in Selangor, said state executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han.

He said the local authorities and elected representatives have often received complaints of leaks in residences, involving residents’ apartment units.

“Complaints of leaks involving units in the upper and lower floors are frequently made, as well as complaints of unapproved modifications from joint management bodies (JMB) in joint ownership areas.

“To this, the COB should play a role in resolving the matter by contacting the relevant parties,” Ng said during a press conference after officiating the First Class Strata Management Symposium at the Park Royal Collection Hotel yesterday.

Also in attendance at the symposium were Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS) president Rahilah Rahmat and MPKS’ Buildings Commission Unit chief Zulfiqah Omar.

Previously, state executive councillor for housing Rodziah Ismail said the state government is always prepared to assist JMBs with the maintenance costs of strata housing, particularly for low-cost housing.

She said the assistance provided to JMBs facing issues include for community gardens, which provide them with a source of income to cover the costs of maintenance charges.
