Depressed individuals advised to utilise Sehat line, 30 qualified counsellors ready to help

SHAH ALAM, Oct 19 — Those experiencing stress and depression have been advised to take advantage of the Selangor Mental Sihat (Sehat) line, and share their problems with certified counsellors.

State executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said some 30 counsellors are always prepared to receive calls and provide help.

“Mental health disorders are the second-highest health problems in Malaysia,” she said in a Facebook post yesterday.

“Therefore I call on the public to take this opportunity and obtain the services by contacting 1700-82-7537 or 1700-82-7536. Up to 30 certified counsellors are ready to help you,” Dr Siti Mariah said.

She added the state government also provides early intervention for those who have been diagnosed with mental health problems by psychiatrists.

With the treatment costs fully borne by the state government, the Sehat programme also helps patients save time and treatment sessions at government and private clinics.

“This is the fourth year the state government has implemented the Sehat programme, with RM1 million allocated to that purpose.

“In 2021, Sehat saw 50,000 people participate via the SELangkah app. For this year, the state government has set up a Sehat line to facilitate the public’s access to certified counsellors,” Dr Siti Mariah said.
