KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 — State executive councillor for investment, industry and trade Dato’ Teng Chang Khim is confident the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2022 can break its record number of visitors as well as the value of targeted transactions set for this year.

He said even though official numbers have not been reported yet, it is highly possible that by today the summit can achieve 40,000 visitors and reach up to five times the value in targeted transactions.

“By the second day of SIBS, we achieved 20,000 visitors and RM1.12 billion in transactions, which is three times the figures we set at the beginning of the event.

“This is certainly a great achievement for SIBS and will be good for the summit’s future, as it strengthens our belief and confidence in SIBS as an international platform, bringing us closer to our target and objective of being a global trading hub,” Teng told Selangor Journal after the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between Lavasse Berhad and MS3 Agri-Ventures Corporation.

He added that SIBS now faces the issue of searching for bigger space as the summit is expected to expand next year, making it necessary to find a solution.

“Right now, we have a positive problem because I expect a bigger event next year yet we have already occupied the whole of KLCC this year, so we need to find a solution for that,” Teng said.

SIBS 2022 was held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from October 6 to October 9, and was officiated by the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah.

The summit featured 906 booths from 623 companies and showcased six main events, including the Selangor International Expo (SIE) Food and Beverages, SIE Medic, Selangor Industrial Park (Spark) Expo, the Selangor Asean Business Conference (SABC), the Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention (SDEC), and the Selangor Research and Development and Innovation Expo (SRIE).

Three other events were held concurrently with SIBS 2022, including the Selangor International Culinary Festival (SICF), the Selangor International Healthcare Conference (SIHC) and the Asian Smart City Conference: Mayors Summit and Selangor Declaration.

The summit saw international participants hailing from 24 countries and included 10 out of 13 Malaysian states.
