GE15: Amirudin confident of reclaiming Gombak seat

By Norrasyidah Arshad

SEPANG, Oct 29 — Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has expressed his confidence that Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) would be able to win back the Gombak parliamentary seat in the 15th general election (GE15)

The Selangor Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman said that he would put in all efforts to give the best for the PH coalition party.

“InsyaAllah (God willing), I will give my very best. I do not want to be proud of myself. But there is an opportunity (and) we would also listen to the voice of the people.

“With hard work and track record, I am confident but it won’t be an easy feat as there will be challenges,” said the Selangor Menteri Besar at a press conference after launching the Rumah Idaman Melur project, here today.

When asked whether there would be split votes among the PKR supporters as he would be contesting against incumbent Gombak MP Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, who is also the former PKR deputy president, Amirudin that the issue does not arise.

“I would say only about 10 to 20 per cent of the party members had followed Azmin. But then in the past two years, the party has faced the pandemic and the party election,” said Amirudin, who is also the Selangor PKR  chairman.

Last night, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced Amirudin as the candidate for the Gombak parliamentary seat.

Mohamed Azmin has served as Gombak MP for three terms. In the last election in 2018, the former PKR deputy president won with a 48,721 vote majority. Mohamed Azmin had in March 2020 defected to Bersatu following the “Sheraton Move” that led to the collapse of the PH Federal government.
