GE15: Late Nik Aziz’s son to contest under PKR ticket in Perak

By Ida Nadirah Ibrahim

SHAH ALAM, Oct 26 — The eldest son of the late PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, Nik Omar Nik Abdul Aziz, will contest under the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) ticket in the 15th general election (GE15).

The announcement was made today by PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who had named seven high-profile candidates for the upcoming polls.

Without stating whether it would be a parliamentary or state seat, Anwar said that Nik Omar would contest in Perak.

“Nik Omar is a renowned figure among national religious scholars. He is the son of the former Kelantan Menteri Besar and PAS Mursyidul Am, Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

“He will contest in Perak,” Anwar announced at the PKR headquarters, which was broadcasted live, today.

In the last general election (GE14), Nik Omar contested the Chempaka state seat in Kelantan under the Pakatan Harapan (PH) ticket. The second child out of 10 siblings had lost the seat to Ahmad Fathan Mahmood of PAS.

Meanwhile, Anwar said that the PH component party values the aspirations and wishes of the general public to see political parties presenting a combination of candidates of diverse and credible backgrounds.

“PKR is aware that voters do not only evaluate the party alone but also take note of the candidate’s qualifications based on their experience.

“We welcome and appreciate all who offered to compete this time around on the PKR ticket,” he said.
