KLANG, Oct 23 — The state-level Deepavali celebration this year was held at Jalan Tengku Kelana as the location is synonymous with the Indian community.

State executive councillor for community welfare V Ganabatirau said Jalan Tengku Kelana, or better known as Little India Klang, has always been the go-to area when it comes to preparing for the Deepavali festive season.

“Jalan Tengku Kelana is the one-stop centre for the Indian community to get the items needed that are available at affordable prices.

“By choosing Jalan Tengku Kelana, the Deepavali celebration could be celebrated together with local communities regardless of religion, culture and race,” he said when delivering his speech at the state-level Deepavali celebration, here last night.

Earlier on, Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah graced the event, which was attended by over 1,000 people from the Indian community . His Highness also distributed money packets (duit raya) to children at the event.

Located in South Klang, Jalan Tengku Kelana, also known as Little India, is a popular shopping area during the Deepavali festive season.

Various items are sold at the area including saree, textiles, metal goods, jewellery, spices and traditional food.
