LTdL 2022: third stage win for team Alpecin-Deceuninck as Bax wins stage seven

LANGKAWI, Oct 17 — Team Alpecin-Deceuninck registered their third stage win in the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL 2022) when Sjoerd Bax bagged the 107.1 kilometre Stage 7 race which required riders to race around the Kuah town in Langkawi, here today.

The rider from the Netherlands was among three riders who staged a break away from the peloton and sprint their way to the finish line with a time of 2 hours 20 minutes and 52 seconds.

China Glory Continental Cycling Team rider Willem Jacobus Smit finished second while Adria Moreno Sala from Burgos-BH finished third but all three riders were given the same time by the race commissioner.

The win gave Team Alpecin-Deceuninck its third stage win as riders from the professional team had also won Stage four and five.

“The team is riding amazing this week, we already had two wins and I knew today was a good chance for me, I knew I had a chance.

“Yeah, I knew I was feeling in good form but for general classification the climbs are a bit too hard for me but to get a stage win was great,” he told reporters after the race.

At the end of today’s stage which also included three sprint zones and two climb zones, the Yellow Jersey (Overall Leader) remained in the possession of Ivan Ramiro Sosa Cuervo from Team Movistar.

The White Jersey (Best Asian rider) was also retained by Terengganu Polygon Cycling Team rider Jambaljamts Sainbayar while Erlend Blikra from Uno-X Pro Cycling Team kept the Green Jersey (Sprint King).

Stage 8 of the LTdL 2022 tomorrow will be held at the same route (Kuah Town) but would comprise a slightly longer distance of 115.9km compared with today’s 107.1km race.
