Malaysia Open World juniors campaign in style with 5-0 win over Sweden

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 18 — Malaysian junior shuttlers began their quest in the 2022 World Junior Mixed Team Championships in style after beating Sweden 5-0 in Spain, yesterday.

The Group A tie at the Palacio de Deportes de Santander, started with Justin Hoh’s 21-10, 21-10 thrashing of Eric Ramstedt in the men’s singles.

In the women’s singles, Siti Nurshuhaini Azman secured a 21-12, 21-12 victory over Khushi Harakamani to make it 2-0.

Malaysia’s winning point was confirmed by Muhammad Fazriq Mohamad Razif-Wong Vin Sean, with a 21-12, 21-9 win against Victor Morskogen-Daniel Strom in the men’s doubles.

Women’s doubles pair Ong Xin Yee-Carmen Ting had to battle it out for 50 minutes before finally edging Elin Ohling-Elin Ryberg 21-18, 17-21, 21-16 spoiling the chances for a perfect victory.

The country’s final point came through mixed doubles pair Bryan Jeremy Goonting-Lee Xin Jie, who defeated Mio Molin-Sofia Stromvall 21-16, 21-23, 21-15.

In another Group A fixture, defending champions Indonesia smashed minnows Latvia 5-0.

Today, Malaysia will take on Latvia, while Indonesia will play Sweden, before a mouthwatering clash between neighbours Malaysia and Indonesia on Wednesday.
