MB: Two million people to get protection under free insurance scheme by year-end

RAWANG, Oct 21 — The Skim Insurans Am Selangor (Insan) general insurance scheme is to provide protection to two million people in Selangor by the end of the year, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Menteri Besar said the target is achievable as the number of registrations has reached 40,000 since the application was made available on October 1

“We have received nearly 40,000 applications. (In the beginning) we aimed to see 1,000 registrations daily. But we are currently getting roughly 2,000 applications per day on average even though the programme has not been officially launched.

“The official launch of the insurance scheme will be held at the (two-day) Jelajah Selangor Penyayang roadshow in Klang, which kicks off tomorrow,” he told the press after the launch of the publicity and public participation programme for the Batu Arang Special Area Plan (RKK) Draft 2030 at the Batu Arang Gallery, here today.

Amirudin said that the free insurance scheme offered to babies as young as 30 days to 80 years old will see improvements made from time to time according to the demands.

“InsyaAllah (God willing), the 2023 Selangor Budget will also include something for the Insan programme. We will make the necessary improvements based on the public feedback,” he said.

On August 30, Amirudin introduced the state’s general insurance scheme for all Selangor residents with an estimated total protection value of RM60 billion and expected to benefit six million people.

To qualify for protection under Insan, the recipient must either be born in Selangor or be a voter in the state.

With a value of RM10,000, the insurance will be paid out for every loss of life caused by accidents and for people who suffer permanent disabilities.
