MBI hands over RM300 contributions to veterans over pension plight

BANTING, Oct 21 — Some 39 Selangor Non-Pensioned Military Association members received RM300 each from Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI earlier yesterday.

Its corporate social responsibility head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the donations are a sign of the state government’s gratitude and appreciation for those who contributed to the nation.

“The cash donations indicate their plight is not ignored by the Selangor government, and will hopefully provide a measure of relief to these ex-soldiers.

“The recipients include those who are less economically well-off,” he said during the handover ceremony at the Kuala Langat parliamentary coordinator’s office yesterday.

On his part, Kuala Langat parliamentary coordinator Mohd Afiq Mohd Tuniman thanked MBI for coming to the aid of the association’s members.

He said the contributions have in some way cheered its recipients, most of whom reside in Kuala Langat.

“We honour the struggle of retired military personnel, and this is one way we show our respect for all the hard work throughout their careers. We will continue to do our best to help this group,” Mohd Afiq said.

Retired Royal Malaysian Air Force personnel Razali Abdul, 65.

Speaking to SelangorKini, association chairman Samion Berau also MBI for the financial aid provided to its members.

“We are touched that MBI is concerned about the association, and comes to the help of its members who do not have a pension. These donations can ease their burden somewhat,” he said.

Retired veteran Razali Abdul, 65, said he is pleased to receive the financial aid and meet up with his peers during the ceremony.

“Naturally one is happy to know we are appreciated, this contribution is much relief for us, and it is good to see old friends again,” said the former Royal Malaysian Air Force man.

Retired soldier Ab Rahim Mahmood, 64.

Meanwhile, Ab Rahim Mahmood, 64, said he is grateful for MBI’s cash donation as it is a very meaningful gesture, particularly for association members who are ill and unemployed.

“After I was involved in an accident, I could no longer work as a bus driver. Nowadays I look for some small income by driving children to their schools.

“As Razali said, this donation is a relief for those of us without any pension,” he said.
