SHAH ALAM, Oct 22 — State-owned investment arm Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI has donated some RM50,000 to disabled athletes participating in the 2022 Para Malaysia Games (Para Sukma) at Kuala Lumpur.
Its corporate social responsibility head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the donation is the first time MBI has done so for a sports contingent.
“In the spirit of helping disabled Selangor athletes, and with the kind support of the Menteri Besar, MBI is pleased to make this donation to help cover the costs of our contingent in the games.
“MBI has previously contributed to individuals like disabled former athletes facing difficulties, as well as disabled football players, but this is the first time we have done so for an entire contingent,” he said.
Ahmad Azri was speaking during the flag-handing ceremony for the 20th Selangor Para Sukma sports contingent, at the Nexus Regency Suites and Hotel in Section 27, here yesterday.
Although the Selangor contingent is aiming for sixth place in the games at 76 medals, he is confident they will be able to achieve more than what is expected of them.
During the ceremony, Ahmad Azri handed a mock cheque to the Selangor Disabled Persons Sports Recreation Association (Pesron) president Shahidon Hanafiah.
