NIISe project to be delivered to Immigration Dept in 2024 as scheduled

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 18 — IRIS Corporation Berhad is confident to hand over the National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe) project to the Immigration Department in 2024, as scheduled.

The NIISe project which is to replace the 20-year-old Malaysian Immigration System (MyIMMs) will modernise the Immigration Department by implementing the latest and most advanced digital applications in order to improve the immigration system and strengthen safety and security at national borders.

Group chief executive officer of IRIS Corporation Berhad Shaiful Zahrin Subhan said they have worked side by side with Immigration Department officers on a daily basis to ensure the project which started in March last year is successfully delivered.

“We are now deep into the project and work closely hand-in-hand with the Ministry of Home Affairs especially the Immigration Department and also other related government agencies that will method to the system once it is ready.

“We are looking very much forward to the project. We have our project team…to specifically manage this project together with all our partners. The prototype (NIISe) is ready and what we have to do (now) is developing the software for the system.

“So we are confident to deliver the system by the time given which is in the next two years,” he told a press conference after the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) and Border Control Solution (e-Gate) subcontract handover ceremony between IRIS and NEC Malaysia here today.

Meanwhile, NEC Malaysia managing director Chong Kai Wooi said NEC will be providing the ABIS and e-Gate systems, featuring highly accurate and reliable multi-modal biometrics authentication, as one of the key technology partners subcontracted for the NIlSe project.

“NEC’s biometrics technology uses fingerprint, iris, and face recognition to authenticate identities of visitors and Malaysians at air, sea, and land immigration checkpoints. The e-Gates will be deployed at all immigration checkpoints to enable smoother passenger experiences.

“Biometrics technology will also enhance security and efficiency while providing travellers with a secure and seamless experience when going through the e-Gates at the immigration checkpoints. We are confident that the NEC ABIS, as an important component to the backbone architecture of NIlSe will also provide effective and efficient processing of all related transactions for the Immigration Department,” he said.

Home Ministry deputy secretary-general (Policy and Control) Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa said that today’s handover ceremony between IRIS and NEC showcases that collaboration of technology is necessary to achieve the goals that have been set in modernising the Immigration Department.

“Strengthening safety and security at our borders is paramount and the intervention of technology in our immigration system will warrant more efficiency in our processes and services than before.

“Through the NIISe initiative, we aim to introduce a digital ecosystem that ensures we work with accurate and trustworthy data and use it to make informed decisions on safety and security matters,” he said.

Mohamad Fauzi said the implementation of NIISe will not only improve tourists’ experience in Malaysia but can also strengthen Malaysia’s position as a preferred holiday destination in the region.

It is the government’s aspiration that NIISe becomes one of the best national immigration systems globally, fitted with the latest technology and committed to enhancing the existing immigration system to be more comprehensive, digitalised, integrated and traveller-friendly.
