SHAH ALAM, Oct 20 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said no official application was made to use facilities for the Malaysia Selangor Entrepreneurs and Family Cooperative Carnival programme at Dataran Eco Grandeur in Puncak Alam, earlier today.
He said he had checked with the state agency following claims the state government was obstructing the use of facilities for the carnival programme organised by the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development (MECD), and found that only a phone call was made last Friday (October 14), and the ministry had been reminded to put in an official application.
“Until the day of the programme, they did not come back with a written application,” Amirudin said on his Twitter account, adding a written application is important as details about the programme are needed since the facility involved has been gazetted as a candidate nomination venue.
Similarly, the Menteri Besar pointed out that the Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS) had received a similar application from the carnival’s organisers on Monday (October 17) for the site at Dataran Eco Grandeur, which was subsequently granted a permit.
“MPKS event sent enforcement officers to monitor the programme and ensure everything ran smoothly. Such accusations from the BN and Umno leadership are indicative of their unchanging nature and pursuit of divisive politics.
“Accusing agencies for taking action based on political intent is an insult to Selangor’s civil servants, who always serve in a professional and objective manner,” he said.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, when speaking at the opening of the programme today, said he was made to understand the organisation of the one-day carnival faced difficulties because the state government disagreed on using the carnival site at Dataran Eco Grandeur.
During the programme, Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar alleged to the media the state government attempted to sabotage the programme.
