Online land office system launched, set to increase state revenue collection

KLANG, Oct 28 — The all-new Smartbox system, an online transaction facility for District and Land Offices, will be implemented throughout Selangor beginning next Tuesday (November 1).

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the digitalisation programme for the land authorities will make the application, review, and payment for land matters easier, in addition to improving the efficiency of state revenue collection.

“The system was first introduced at the State Secretariat Building during the movement control order (MCO), due to the spread of Covid-19.

“The pandemic affected both human movements and economic activities, including those related to state revenue. Managing land is a part of this and if its operations are hindered, it will have a negative impact on revenue collection.

“When MCO was declared, all operations ceased, including the closure of land office counters. But it was not a long wait, as within three to four months we introduced Smartbox, which recorded over 12,000 transactions,” he said.

Amirudin was speaking at the launch of the Smartbox system, developed by the Selangor Land and Mines Office, at the Klang District and Land Office earlier today.

He added the system’s success is evident from the RM53 million in revenue collection for this year, compared to RM33.9 million in 2021, and RM28.9 million in 2020 collected through over-the-counter payment systems.

“Smartbox not only increases the efficiency of state revenue collection but is also able to streamline data.

“Through this system, more documents can be managed and transactions completed all at once, pushing Selangor towards a Smart State status by 2025,” Amirudin said.
