Selangor distributes vouchers to B40 members of Indian community for Deepavali

SHAH ALAM, Oct 20 — RM100 shopping vouchers were provided to low-income Indian families in all state constituencies, for the upcoming Deepavali festival.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said he hopes the Jom Shopping programme will benefit these families and ease their burdens as they prepare to celebrate the festival, which falls on Monday (October 24).

“As with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Chinese New Year celebrations, this year’s Deepavali celebration will also be coloured by the distribution of Jom Shopping vouchers.

“May this RM100 voucher give put a smile on every state citizen’s face as they celebrate with their families in the future,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday.

The Jom Shopping Raya initiative was introduced by the state government for those from the low-income B40 group, aimed at upholding the people’s welfare and well-being.

The aid is handed over at community service centres for each state constituency, based on the ethnic group and festival in question.

For this year, RM8 million has been allocated for Jom Shopping Raya for all festivals, of which RM3.34 million was reserved for Hari Raya Aidilfitri in May.
