SHAH ALAM, Oct 6 — The state government has deployed several public-centric smart initiatives, including the Financial Aid System for Selangor State Assemblyman Offices and the enhancement of existing Citizen e-Payment (CEPat), to enable more government services to be reached by the public via online.

Under the Smart Selangor Action Plan 2025, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said Selangor spearheading the adoption of smart digital technologies via four key domains, namely Smart Government, Smart Economy, Smart Community and Smart Digital Infrastructure, to pursue inclusiveness, resilience and innovation.

“These initiatives support the objectives under the Smart Government domain, in which Selangor aims to become a data-driven government.

“Among Smart Selangor’s notable achievements include Smart Selangor Parking (SSP), an integrated online payment parking app that enables the public to pay for parking and summons at ten local councils in Selangor.

“To date, SSP has 2.2 million registered users. Selangor is also the first state in Malaysia to implement a fully digital parking payment system through the SSP E-Coupon feature, which has rendered paper coupons obsolete,” he said.

Amirudin added that in 2019, the state government launched CEPat, a smart, cashless payment app for Selangor government-paid services.

“CEPat now has nine local councils on board, with 62 services and seven payment methods. A total of 12 local councils are expected to be on board in the second quarter of next year,” he said in his opening speech at the launch of the Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy (SDEC) 2022 — Asian Smart City Conference: Mayors Summit.

Also in attendance were state executive councillor for investment, industry and trade Dato’ Teng Chang Khim, and Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) chief executive officer Yong Kai Ping.

Organised by Sidec, the conference gathers mayors and representatives from 11 cities around the world including Jakarta, Taipei, Asan, Chiang Mai and Amsterdam to share their knowledge, experiences and approaches to resolving city liveability challenges via smart technologies.

SDEC 2022 is a part of the wider Selangor International Business Summit 2022 (SIBS 2022), held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre starting today until Sunday (October 9).

With approximately 906 booths from 623 companies, this year’s summit aims at attracting some 30,000 visitors during its duration.

SIBS 2022 will showcase six main events, including the Selangor International Expo (SIE) Food and Beverages, SIE Medic, Selangor Industrial Park (Spark) Expo, the Selangor Asean Business Conference (SABC), the Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention (SDEC), and the Selangor Research and Development and Innovation Expo (SRIE).
