SHAH ALAM, Oct 25 — The Selangor State Arts and Cultural Festival (PSKNS) 2022 is currently running from October 1 until December 31 at several selected locations in the state.

Organised by the state executive council for rural development and traditional village, Malay customs, culture and heritage, the festival is said to include a series of events that brings together the Selangor citizens’ social identity and culture.

“There are five main events and eight pocket events that have been selected to be showcased throughout the festival’s duration.

“The main events are the wau kapal Selangor Festival, Selangor Keroncong Manifestation, Traditional Nasi Ambeng Selangor Fiesta, Rhythms of Selangor Concert and Gratitude to His Royal Highness Programme: Selangor Silat Arts Celebration and Selangor Cempuling Fair,” the state executive council said in a statement.

The first event, the wau kapal Selangor Festival, is set to take place from October 28-30 at the Industrial Training Institute (ILP), Kuala Langat.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari and executive councillor for rural development and traditional village Borhan Aman Shah will officiate the event, which features food trucks and wau kapal designers and sellers showcasing their skills.

This traditional event aims to introduce wau kapal, which is a locally designed kite that has a trailing edge in the shape of a boat, as the state’s traditional kite to the public while nurturing society’s interest towards this traditional game and preserving it as a cultural asset.

“The event will see a wau-flying competition for various categories, which includes higher education institutions and schools. The prizes total over RM30,000,” the statement read.

Through this event, the state government hopes to turn Selangor into national art, culture and heritage destination.

PSKNS 2022 is coordinated by Selangor State Economic Planning Unit (Upen) and supported by Selangor State Cultural Council (MKNS) and Selangor Malay Customs and Heritage Corporation (Padat).
