Selangor records five pct economic growth in 2021, surpass overall national growth — MB

SHAH ALAM, Oct 24 — Selangor records a successful economic growth of five per cent in 2021, surpassing Malaysia’s economy that recorded only 3.1 per cent growth, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

“In 2021, Malaysia’s economy recorded a growth of 3.1 per cent but Selangor surpassed that performance with a successful economic growth of 5.0 per cent,” he said in a Facebook post earlier today.

Amirudin said Selangor’s economic performance is constantly improving and competitive, despite the national economy being severely affected by the pandemic in the past two years.

“Selangor’s economic performance is constantly increasing. Although the national economy has been severely affected and suffered a decline during the pandemic, the state economy remains competitive,” he said.

Amirudin added the state government recorded encouraging revenue collection, which has exceeded its target for the third consecutive year.

The results of this success are given back to the people through welfare programmes like those encapsulated in the Iltizam Selangor Penyayang (ISP) initiative.

“May the efforts of the state government benefit those in need in the Land of Darul Ehsan, and create a Selangor known as a state of compassion,” he said.

The Menteri Besar also expressed gratitude over the encouraging reception he received at the Jelajah Selangor Penyayang roadshow in Klang, over a two-day period.

Thousands turned up for the event where the state government, through various agencies and subsidiaries, presented 44 welfare programmes under the ISP framework.

“Alhamdulillah, with thousands of Klang residents, it was very encouraging to see the reception of ISP’s welfare programmes as presented by the various state agencies and subsidiaries,” Amirudin said.
