SHAH ALAM, Oct 12 — Some 40 Selangor Volunteer (Serve) Rescue members will undergo basic training with the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) for four days starting tomorrow, on ways to deal with flood disasters.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the group will also be given search and rescue training so they can assist Selangor in the future.

“They will come and assist in the event of a flood alongside full-time teams, volunteer firefighters, community firefighters and non-governmental organisation teams which JBPM has identified to assist during disasters,” he said.

Amirudin was speaking during the launch of the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department’s (JBPM) Northeast Monsoon preparations, at the Fire and Rescue Station in Section 15, Shah Alam, earlier today.

Meanwhile, Selangor JBPM director Norazam Khamis said the 40 youth participants will be trained by its Water Rescue Team on handling flood victims.

“They will also be given basic first aid training, in addition to mine training in Puchong so they can understand real-life situations later on,” he said.

Serve Rescue was formerly known as Serve Elite, with the state government providing RM100,000 in funds to establish the team.

Membership is open to local citizens aged 18 to 45, in good health without physical disabilities, who are able to read and write, and are interested in volunteering works as well as community activities.
