SHAH ALAM, Oct 5 — The Sungai Langat Flood Mitigation Plan (RTB) Phase 2 that was approved in the 12th Malaysia Plan will start in the near future, said Dusun Tua state assemblyman Edry Faizal Eddy Yusof.

He said the project will be implemented starting at the Sungai Lui estuary (muara) to Desa Nanding in Hulu Langat.

“During the Hulu Langat District Development Action Committee, the Irrigation and Drainage Department provided a briefing concerning the RTB. Its related allocation has already been approved and works will begin soon,” Edry Faizal said in a Facebook post yesterday.

He added the RTB includes the construction of reservoirs, widening and deepening rivers, constructing sluices and pump houses, together with strengthening and stabilising river banks.

“The reservoir to be constructed at approximately 43 hectares in size is expected to reduce flooding risks, not only for the areas after Nanding but all the way to Sepang,” Edry Faizal said.

To resolve the issue of debris flooding caused by the headwaters, the assemblyman said several sabo dams (empangan sabo) will be built upstream.

Asides from Shah Alam, Hulu Langat was one of the areas which were severely affected by the heavy floods in December last year.
