State aims 10 pct of strata homes to use LED lights this year

SHAH ALAM, Oct 14 — Some 10 per cent of strata homes in Selangor are targeted to switch to light emitting diode (LED) lighting this year under the Green Building initiative.

In a report by Sinar Harian, state executive councillor for housing development Rodziah Ismail said Synergy Group provided support for the effort by allocating RM400 million, which is expected to benefit residents in 6,000 buildings.

She said that so far, 27 strata buildings have participated in the programme and six of them have switched to LED lightings.

“As of this moment, a total of 581 building managements have been identified and hopefully this programme can be accelerated, especially after the technical issues relating to Act 757 (of the Strata Management Act) in the initial stages of planning have been resolved.

“The target of 10 per cent is just the beginning and the state government will discuss with the Selangor Housing and Property Board for an action plan to ensure the initiative can reach its 100 per cent target within five to 10 years,” she was quoted by the Malay daily.

Speaking at the recent launch of the LED lights installation at Vista Seri Putra Apartment in Bandar Seri Putra, Rodziah said the switch to LED lights contributes to green initiatives, saves energy and is durable.
