Sungai Kuyoh mitigation project completed, will prevent Taman Kinrara floods from recuring — Exco

SHAH ALAM, Oct 21 — The Petaling District Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) has completed its efforts to strengthen river embankments, and the construction of Sungai Kuyoh’s river bunds at Taman Kinrara Section 1 in Puchong, totalling RM1.1 million.

State executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han said the project was part of the flood mitigation and river maintenance project as Taman Kinrara was previously affected by floods in December 2021 and March 2022.

“The project, completed on September 21, saw the strengthening of embankments at Sungai Kuyoh and the construction of a two-metre high and 300-metre long bund at a cost of RM1.1 million.

“Hopefully this will help prevent Sungai Kuyoh’s waters from overflowing into Taman Kinrara whenever heavy rains occur,” he said.

Similarly, the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Kuala Lumpur DID have taken action to clear and deepen the water catchment pool (kolam bohol) at the Taman Kinrara inlet area, which was completed in June.

“The deepening of the pool has helped to accommodate the distribution of rainwater during the heavy rainfall a few months ago, which helped to prevent flash floods at Taman Kinrara from recuring.

“After several discussions and joint site visits with the related agencies, I am relieved this flood mitigation project has been completed before the onset of the Northeast Monsoon,” Ng said.

The councillor expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Petaling DID, DBKL and the KL DID for all their efforts in carrying out the work and realising the completion of the project.
