KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 — The inaugural First Class Strata Management Symposium organised by the Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS) is the best platform to provide exposure to issues related to high-rise buildings.

State executive councillor for local government Ng Sze Han said strata management is very important nowadays due to vigorous development in both urban and suburban areas.

“There are two types of strata, which are elevated and landed. As many developments have strata concepts, knowledge is necessary so that explanations can be made properly.

“I hope this symposium will be the best medium to provide exposure and experience to all parties involved in strata building management, as well as to share methods in solving strata problems in their respective areas,” he said.

Ng was speaking at a press conference after officiating the symposium at the Park Royal Collection Hotel, earlier today.

He recommended other local authorities also hold similar seminars, in order to raise greater awareness.

Meanwhile, MPKS president Rahilah Rahmat said the symposium is an initiative to realise the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11 of building sustainable cities and communities.

“SDG 11 aims to create inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable settlements. With this, MPKS organised the symposium to provide exposure to create a safe, resilient and sustainable home.

“I trust with the knowledge and experience each invited panelist possesses, they can provide the best guidance in creating more organised management bodies which are capable of managing problems,” she said.

The symposium was attended by approximately 140 participants from all over Malaysia and various agencies, including representatives from local authorities, Joint Management Body (JMB) representatives, and real estate developers.
