SHAH ALAM, Oct 4 — Approximately 5,000 food baskets have been prepared by local NGO Team Selangor, in the event that floods take place at the end of the year.
Its chief secretariat Syahaizel Keman said the baskets containing daily necessities, are set to be distributed in accordance with the needs of flood victims.
“This time round, we prepared between 3,000 to 5,000 baskets, with a focus on food that can be consumed immediately or is easy to cook, especially in temporary evacuation centres (PPS).
“Hygiene kits will also be distributed to victims so they can look after their health. The distribution will be carried out at the PPS as well as to victims at their homes,” he said when contacted.
In the wake of last year’s severe flooding, the state government mobilised volunteers including those from Team Selangor to pitch in by helping to relocate affected residents to PPS.
Team Selangor itself visited some 3,403 homes in 71 localities which were affected by the floods, where they carried out various activities including clearing out homes submerged in the flood, distributing drinking water, as well as packaging and delivering food baskets
