GOMBAK, Oct 2 — Standard chicken, eggs and beef were all sold out within 90 minutes of the launch of the Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat affordable basic necessities sale programme, for the Sungai Tua state constituency at Flat Selayang Mulia earlier today.
Regional political secretary to the Menteri Besar Rahim Ahmad Kasdi said the public’s response has been highly enthusiastic since all the products being sold at Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat are at lower prices than the market average.
“This is the sale’s seventh location, its previous six locations also saw the residents there receive Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat very well, with several beginning to queue as early as 8am.
“Overall, over 5,000 residents have been estimated to benefit from the programme (today),” he said at the programme’s site.
Rahim added a similar event will also be organised for the upcoming Deepavali celebrations on October 22, for the benefit of Indian residents to get their festive essentials.
“The will take place at Taman Laksamana Permai, where many Indian families reside. We will also sell mutton and various necessities at reasonable prices,” he said.
The state government has allocated approximately RM10 million for Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat in 56 state constituencies, running from September 6 to December 6 in 160 locations.
The Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) initiative is aimed at helping the public in dealing with the rising costs of basic goods and has benefitted over 80,000 people since its introduction in December last year.
Jelajah Ehsan Rakyat offers items including standard chicken at RM10 per chicken, fresh beef at RM10 per pack, and Grade B eggs at RM10 per tray.
Other items include mackerel fish at RM6 per pack, 5kg of cooking oil at RM25, and 5kg of rice at RM10.

Meanwhile, some 337 low-income families in the state constituency have been deemed eligible for the RM300 monthly assistance, for up to a year.
Rahim said that to date, 80 per cent of recipients have benefitted from the Bantuan Kehidupan Sejahtera Selangor (Bingkas) initiative,
“Most families are existing Kasih Ibu Smart Selangor (KISS) recipients. Alongside examining their application documents, we also seek further verification from the local councillor and village heads.
“This is to ensure that families facing financial difficulty with a household income of less than RM2,000 can be helped on a monthly basis,” he said.
Bingkas is one of the 44 incentives under Iltizam Selangor Penyayang, which was launched at the end of June, and is set to benefit up to 30,000 families with a RM108 million allocation.
On August 1, state executive councillor for investment Dato’ Teng Chang Khim said Bingkas payments will be distributed via the Wavpay e-wallet, for the ease and convenience of its recipients.
