Wavpay, AmGeneral signs agreement to implement Insan scheme

SHAH ALAM, Oct 21 — Wavpay Fintech Holdings Sdn Bhd (Wavpay) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with AmGeneral Insurance Berhad (AmGeneral) to implement the Skim Insurans Am Selangor (Insan) free general insurance scheme.

The strategic partnership was signed by Wavpay chief executive officer Brahma Shakti and AmGeneral chief executive officer Martin Bridger.

Witnessing the ceremony was state executive councillor for trade Dato’ Teng Chang Khim, at the Selangor Economic Action Council (MTES) operations room in the State Secretariat Building, earlier today.

According to Teng, the agreement signals the beginning of various initiatives to be implemented for the future benefit of the people and Selangor.

“This partnership is the first step towards numerous other collaborations. We can take advantage of various products using digital technology.

“It is also in line with Selangor’s objective to empower the use of digital technology. So, to start, we can now reap the benefits of combining digital technology and insurance,” he said.

Teng added a total of 2,000 to 3,000 individuals are targeted on a daily basis to register for Insan, which was opened on October 1.

He said the Selangor State Legislative Assembly, as well as coordinators of state constituencies and Parliamentary seats, have been briefed to intensify its promotion and help people register for the scheme.

“So far, the number of registrations for this scheme has exceeded 40,000. We have asked the Assembly and coordinators to invite people to register for Insan.

“Ir will be launched by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari during the Jelajah Selangor Penyayang roadshow in Klang tomorrow. We are confident the number of registered individuals will increase,” Teng said.

On August 30, Amirudin announced a total of six million people will be covered by Insan, with the premium cost fully borne by the state government.

He said each registered individual receives up to RM10,000 in coverage, in the event of death, accidents and injuries according to type.

The scheme, with a protection value of RM60 billion, can be registered for until September 30, 2023, by downloading the Wavpay e-wallet app via the App Store or Google Play.
