Woman burnt to death in two-car collision

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 — A woman was burnt to death after her car caught fire following an accident with another car at Km10.9 of the MEX Expressway early today.

Bukit Jalil Fire and Rescue Station Operations commander Senior Fire Officer II Khairuddin Abdurrahman said the department was summoned at 6.14am following the accident and 17 firemen from the Bukit Jalil and Pudu stations were rushed to the scene.

“Three passengers of the car driven by the woman escaped unhurt while another passenger suffered head injuries. The driver of the other car was also unhurt,” he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Cheras police chief ACP Zam Halim Jamaluddin said the burnt body of the woman was found in a Perodua Bezza car.

“The Perodua Bezza car was hit by a Proton Saga car as the driver was re-entering the highway after a stop at the emergency lane.

“The collision caused the Perodua Bezza to skid, crash into a road divider and burst into flames. Four passengers managed to save themselves while the 28-year-old female driver was pinned to her seat and died on the spot as the vehicle was ablaze,” he said in a statement.

The police have appealed to people with information on the accident to contact traffic investigating officer Insp Ahammad Sadiq Yusoff at 013-4545 679 or Jalan Tun HS Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999 or any police station.
